Dishes for the Curry Newbie

It should come as no surprise to you that here at Spice Lounge Kitchen, we are massive curry fans! From korma to tandoori masala, we love them all. However, we know that not everyone is as familiar with the Indian dishes as we are, and choosing a curry dish for the first time can be confusing. At this time of year, we meet lots of new guests who are unfamiliar with curry as they come for Christmas office parties and family get-togethers. So, with this in mind, we’ve put together a guide to curry for the newbie.

Understandably, korma is one of our most popular dishes, and it’s perfect for curry newbies. It is creamy and delicious and has a particularly mild spice to it. For someone not familiar with curry dishes, this is a perfect starting point. Enjoy it with chicken, lamb, fish or prawn and naan bread to soak up the creamy sauce!

Butter Chicken

This dish is another relatively mild curry that is perfect for beginners. Butter chicken offers a creamy, sauce made from butter and tomatoes with a mixture of herbs and spices to give it a mild, yet flavoursome taste.

If you’re looking to be a little more adventurous, why not try a bhoona? This dish can be served with chicken, lamb, fish or prawn and features tomatoes, onions and ginger, giving an aromatic sauce with a bit of a kick. This is one to try out if you’re a fan of spice!

Feel like pushing your taste buds to the limits? Throw yourself in to the curry spirit and opt for a hot and spicy madras! This dish mixes chilli powder with yoghurt, giving a creamy yet spicy sauce that is delicious when teamed up with chicken, lamb, fish or prawn. Be warned, this is a particularly spicy dish, so be prepared for the heat!

Whether you are a spice lover or not, there are plenty of delicious curry dishes on our menu for you to try out. You may find that you can’t resist coming back for more!
